Virtually all apartments come in studio, one, two or three-bedroom configurations. It is rare to find a four-bedroom apartment in any market, and you are likely better off searching for a house or townhouse rental.

Having said that, you may be able to find a four-bedroom (rare) or a three-bedroom apartment with a den or study that you can convert to a fourth bedroom.

How to Find Four-Bedroom Apartments

If you are still keen on looking for a four-bedroom apartment, follow these steps and you may have some success:

  • Visit all the major apartment listing websites like Apartments.com, Zillow.com, Rent.com and Trulia.com.
  • Enter the name of your city and suburb if the option is available.
  • In the dropdown or filter option, click ‘four’ as the minimum number of bedrooms to view everything available. Apartments.com has a nice filter for bedrooms and you can easily see at a glance the number of four bedrooms (if any).

Once you follow these steps, you should be able to see all four-bedroom apartments that are available to you in the area. Keep in mind that these may not be apartments, but could be townhomes or penthouse units for rent.

What to Do if You Cannot Find a Four-Bedroom Apartment?

Since four-bedroom apartments are rare, you may be better off looking for townhomes or homes that offer the additional space you need.

Take a look at your lifestyle and decide if you really need four bedrooms. Then, start your search based on your specific needs, including looking at apartments, townhomes, penthouses and freestanding houses.
